So I read Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games trilogy a bajillion years late. I devoured it within 24 hours and wrung out every bit of feelings I had and more. It really hit me hard and I wish there was more fic for it but I found an amazing series I rec'd below.

The Hunger Games
Scylla and Charybdis, Wisely, I Say, I Am A Bachelor & A View from the Lists by Mithrigil & puella_nerdii
Synopsis: Finnick/Annie, canon-level: violence, gore, death, dubcon, forced prostitution, moments of fluff, happy ending jfc. Finnick decides that, come hell or high water, he is bringing his tribute home from the seventieth Hunger Games. That tribute is Annie Cresta. But Finnick never thought that he would have to choose between bringing her home and keeping her safe, and he wants both. How Annie Cresta crept up on Finnick Odair.
Notes: This is so fucking beautiful it hurts. ~60,000 words and I wish it went forever. It's rough, just as rough and real as canon but with a soothing touch here and there and a beautiful happy ending. It also has the rumblings of a prequel to The Hunger Games, expanded in it's subsequent sequels.

Ashes and Flame (Every You and Every Me) by freneticfloetry
Synopsis: Peeta/Katniss, post-canon, fucking beautiful. Peeta comes home, still unsure what the word means.
Notes: This is the epilogue told from Peeta's POV and it's fucking beautiful. Prepare to cry but also heal. The characters were spot-on and the little expanding upon canon (Haymitch's geese, Peeta's baking...) were just what I need to help soothe my ravaged feelings.

X-men: First Class

Progression of a Family Portrait by Xris
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, canon AU, kidfic, kidnapping, epic. “You’re sure we can handle one more?” Hank asks from the sidelines.
Notes: Post-divorce, Charles is setting up the school and on a trip for a new gifted child, he stumbles across Lorna. AND THEN FEELINGS BURST ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Hellfire AU by Cesare & helens78
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Dystopia AU, slavery. Erik Lehnsherr has been searching for Sebastian Shaw for close to a decade, and the trail's led him to an exclusive club that rents enslaved and collared mutants to wealthy humans for a variety of sexual uses. Posing there, he meets one of the club's patrons, Charles Xavier, who isn't what the club thinks he is, either. Is Charles going to be an ally, or is he going to stand in Erik's way?
Notes: There's some characterization that's a big rough around the edges at times but the worldbuilding was well-done. It's an ongoing series but each fic is pretty much stand-alone.

The Changeling Prince by Regann
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Fairytale AU, first-time. While seeking help to break a magical curse, a soldier named Erik finds himself trying to solve the mystery of a young prince's illness, a task that leads him deeper into the fickle world of the fae than he ever imagined.

I Ain't Scared of Lightning by kaydeefalls
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, canon AU, bamf!Charles, angst, minor character death, world rebuilding. "Shaw has someone very dear to me," Charles said in a low tone. "You're not the only one playing for keeps, Erik."
Notes: Holy bananas, this AU is amazing. I loved the minute changes in canon and the consequences upon character personality (Charles most obvious) and how it shapes Erik & Charles's interaction and Raven and Darwin's badassery and Alex and everything.

Omega by apokteino
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, AU. Wherein the world decides to deal with mutants with utter segregation. All mutants are placed on Genosha, and all children are tested at birth for the mutant gene, and sent to Genosha if they have it, to be adopted by other mutants. Years later, Charles Xavier's parents bribe officials to keep their child, and he grows up utterly alone in a human world. But all that changes ...
Notes: Lovely worldbuilding with an overarching plot that finished nicely.

Luther (BBC)
Strong Interactions by Speranza
Synopsis: John/Alice, post-S1 AU.
Notes: Ungf, fucking love me some Speranza and I love BBC's Luther. Never thought of looking for fic and holy shit this hit the spot. Great Alice voice, great Luther characterization and a short lovely read that's sweet even with some bloodshed (not as graphic as canon)

Avengers
Heroes & Devils by marinarusalka
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, Echo-Bazaar AU, dark, mind-control, epic. Three years after Dr. Doom cast the entire island of Manhattan into the dark depths of the Echo Bazaar, life goes on. The people of Lowered Manhattan, including the Avengers, have adapted as best they could to their shadowy new existence. But then the Avengers find themselves in possession of a mysterious locked box that could save them all -- if it doesn't kill Tony first.
Notes: Epic demonic saga. You don't need to know canon Echo Bazaar (I don't) to pick up the world. Great worldbuilding and characterization.

Arms and the Man by sam-storyteller
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, first-time, brief PTSD. His best friend keeps cockblocking him, his relationship guru is a computer, and he might be gay. The future is very complicated.
Notes: Super-cute. Oblivious Steve is obliviously gay and oblivious Tony is totally oblivious.

age is an irrational number by valtyr
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, major-character death, happy ending, angst, multiple orgasms. Steve and Tony grow old together.
Notes: Um, my tags are pretty ridiculous on this one. You will cry lots. There will be too many feelings. and there will also be some ridiculously hot porn and fluff.

Time Watches From the Shadow by shadesofbrixton
Synopsis: Steve/Bucky, Firefly/Avengers Fusion. Post-Serenity spoilers. Mostly movie-verse Avengers, plus some...other stuff?
Notes: I didn't even know I wanted this. Shiiiiit, so good. The world-fusing has a few shaky moments but many great ones. And a lovely ending that filled me with feeeeeelings!

Sherlock
Lacuna by coloredink
Synopsis: Sherlock/John, amnesia, mild dubcon. God, it must have been terrible, to think that he would never have this again.
Notes: John suffers some amnesia and comes to the conclusion he and Sherlock are dating. Super cute for the most part.

Star Trek (2009)
How We Are (but not how we're going to be) by alpha_hydra
Synopsis: Kirk/Spock, post-STXI, Spock POV. Even when they hate each other, they're still sort of falling in love.
Notes: A little difficult to dive in at first. Kirk & Spock utterly fail to understand each other in their attempts to understand one another and it's a mess and they get fired from their first therapist. Yeah, Bones makes them go to couple's therapy to help create a healthy professional relationship.

♥ The Lotus Eaters by aldora89
Synopsis: Kirk/Spock, first-time, epic, mind-control. Stranded on the planet Sigma Nox while searching for a missing away team, Spock and Kirk find themselves pitted against a disturbing native life form. With the captain out of commission on a regular basis and Spock struggling to preserve his stoicism, staying alive is difficult enough – but when a slim chance for escape surfaces, their resolve is truly put to the test. Together they must fight for survival in the heart of an alien jungle, and in the process, uncover the mystery of the planet’s past.
Notes: Slow-burning epic of Spock and Kirk surviving on their own on an relatively unknown planet with a disturbing native life form. The build up between them is maddeningly aching. UGH, SO GOOD.

I've gotten a few subscribers! Yes, I count two as a few. I'll try to be good about tagging everything appropriately but I don't always keep the best of notes.

Sometimes I'm afraid I over-tag or the tags will seem like the entire story encompasses torture or violence. I'll still tag them for it but most only have a small instance of it. I try to note it if it's ridiculously violent or dark (aka Nine Eleven Ten)

Also, I've watched BBC Sherlock 02x01 and I rather enjoyed it. I had some issues with certain things but overall I still had fun.

My next set of recs will have some Star Trek in it. I know this has been XMFC central but it's been super easy to find lots of great epics while Star Trek seems to be prepping for STXII or such. I've been going through the Big Bang pieces but slowly.

X-men: First Class

Charles' Killer by luchia
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, modern serial killer/detective AU, kidnapping, torture, dark. When detective Charles Xavier finds himself hunting down a vendetta-driven serial killer, it doesn't take long for him to realize he's in over his head. It only takes a little longer for him to realize his killer is, too.
Notes: Incredible characterization. Impossible decisions. An underlining mystery. It's amazing.

Let Them Talk by manic_intent
Synopsis: Logan/Charles, D/S AU, imprinting, implied dub-con/non-con, implied domestic abuse, BAMF!Logan, human!Charles. There are stories where Charles is Erik’s sub and they are both happy, but what about some more angsty theme? AU where mutants and humans live together but mutants think themselves more important and often treat humans like dirt. Sub/Dom pairs are created by imprinting. Mutants generally imprint on mutants and Erik who is the most powerful among them thinks that he will have equally powerful sub. Turns out that he imprints on Charles – a brilliant yet entirely human Professor. Cue Erik being disgusted and angry with his Sub, which Charles takes really hard. Erik is ashamed of him, and doesn’t want him to associate with other mutants, but slowly Charles charms his way to the hearts of everyone and one day another mutant (Logan pretty please?) challenges Erik’s claim over Xavier.
Notes: Charles is meek and human in this so that takes a bit getting used to but his growth is beautiful. Logan is awesome and super understanding and patient and all he wants is the best of things for Charles in his stoic way. Raven's clique are all BAMFy and Tony Stark makes an appearance and it's GREAT. Erik is pretty harshly portrayed in this but I felt within the realm of being matched with a human. Brought up some interesting thoughts on human!Charles interaction. I really loved this piece although some of the following sequels weren't as strong (but still fun to read)

Rescue Run by rebooting WiP
Synopsis: light Erik/Charles, abduction, torture, sexual assault. Sixteen months after the beach, Erik sends Emma on a routine sweep to ensure that the Westchester mansion is still all right, and finds out that Charles, Hank, Alex, Sean, and a re-formed Darwin have been taken. Despite their prior enmity, Erik and Moira join forces to find out who is behind the disappearance, and what they'll need to do to bring their friends back home.
Notes: This is pretty dark so it's not for the faint of heart. Excuse the accidental psuedo-rhyme. Characterizations are a little off (to me) but it was still an engrossing read. There are many heartbroken parts. Prepare tissues.

No Yesterdays On The Road by pocky_slash
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, post-beach!AU, abduction. It's been two months since Cuba and things are settling down for Charles, Erik, and the beginnings of their mutant school. Right up until Charles disappears, that is. Faced with the possibility that a bitter Emma Frost has kidnapped Charles, Erik is forced to team up with Moira to hunt down the remainder of the Hellfire Club. From there, they hope to locate Frost and retrieve Charles, without killing each other along the way.
Notes: This was so good for me. Moira's & Erik's interactions were spot-on and the journey their enmity-to-begruding-friendship-la-la was awesome. Loved it. Plus, kid!Jean Grey! The ending!

♥♥ Three Kinds of Learning & The Stuff National Anthems Are Made Of by luchia
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, abduction, imprisonment, BAMF!Charles. Erik intends to recruit Raven's supposedly amazing, all-powerful older brother. Instead, he finds himself dealing with Charles Xavier, a weak, tweed-addled professor who seems to think powers don't matter nearly as much as personality. Erik's misconceptions are blown apart when Raven goes missing.
Notes: This helped me discover my love for reigning!Erik & reining!Charles. The journey into Erik & Charles feelings is slow and sweet and steady and lovely. Bemused!Erik is the best Erik, second to badassrighteous!Erik. I fucking love everything in this series.

Blood and Steel and Miles Between
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, beach AU, hurt/comfort, bittersweet, epic. On a beach in Cuba, Charles manages to talk Erik down from the edge. But even after the missiles have been diverted, compromise is impossible. There are two different futures to build, and Erik and Charles will always be separated by their principles. But when Charles is kidnapped and the X-Men can't find him, Erik will get him back no matter the consequences.
Notes: So fucking good for me. So. Fucking. Gooooooood.

Inception

Thing by pointwoman
Synopsis: Arthur/Eames, fluffy, as-kids!fic. For the kink-meme prompt: I want Eames and Arthur like toddlers. Eames absolutely knowing that he is gonna marry arthur when they grown up
Notes: So cute I think I became diabetic. Eames counts his little allowance as part of his way to keep Arthur the way he is accustomed. OMG FLAIL.
bikitchi: (Default)
Just saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie and it was sooooo gooooood for me. I loved it!

I got lazy with notes... so, some are missing. >_>;;

Once Upon a Time
Übermorgen hol ich mir der Königin ihr Kind by waldorph
Synopsis: fairytale AU, Rumpelstiltskin-centric. Rumpelstiltskin really just wants a child.
Notes: This reads like a fairytale and it's a wonderful little story.

X-men: First Class
I Want You To Hold Me Back by helens78
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, pwp, orgasm denial, begging. It started with a dare; Charles lifting an eyebrow and saying, "I could stop you going over, you know."
Notes: Uggh, so hot. This hit all my spots.

Masters of the Universe by Nezumi Pi WiP
Synopsis: gen Erik/Charles, modern AU,powers, dark, angst, as kids. Modern-day AU...it's not clear whether or not powers exist, but if they do, they certainly aren't obvious. Erik Lensherr is a profoundly disturbed twelve-year-old who hears Charles Xavier as a voice in his head. Things you will find in this story: an out-of-control teenage Tony Stark, a green card marriage, and a sinister plot (not necessarily in that order).
Notes:

It's All Coming Back to Me by Regann
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, deathfic, angst.
Notes: There were a few times the characters felt a bit off but it was lovely nonetheless. It's a deathfic but there's a bit of twist.

Skin Deep series by manic_intent
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Werewolf AU, genderswitch shifter. Written for the kmeme, Everyone-is-a-werewolf AU. Erik happens upon a seemingly abandoned mansion in Westchester during a full moon and finds an insanely clueless werewolf living in isolation.
Notes: Nice worldbuilding regarding werewolves. A nice long reaaaad.

Time to Grow by zarah5
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, . In which you'll find chess dates which aren't dates (or maybe Charles is wrong about that). -- Based on First Class, this turns (slightly) AU during the beach scene.
Notes:

Wisteria by kay-cricketed
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, . Erik hates being unable to hide just how much he wants Charles.
Notes:

break through the cracks and bring me home by acetamide
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, angst, pining . So, while the helmet is pretty handy in keeping telepathic nuisances out of Erik's head, there are plenty of other reasons why it's inconvenient. Like, it'd sure be great if Emma could warn Erik in his mind if something bad is coming while she's on watch. So, Erik decides the helmet is flawed. He has one reconstructed that allows telepaths to send thoughts to him, but denies them the ability to control his mind. Sort of like having a one-way radio.
Notes: The pining! The emotion!

never too late to be who you might have been by acetamide
Synopsis: Erik/Charles . Erik wakes suddenly and takes a deep breath, and realises that there is nothing.
Notes:

Geas by thezeppelins
Synopsis: light Erik/Charles, Thor cross-over, dark!Loki. I have written… (da da da daah!) …an X-men / Thor crossover! It’s not really a crossover, because these things canonically take place in the same world, but I always think that X-men (the movies at least) don’t gel too well with superheroes.
Notes: Reads like a fairytale and almost chilling. Main events happen per canon.

Every Piece of You by unveiled
Synopsis: implied Erik/Charles, Inception crossover, dreamshare deaths. Eames is hired for an urgent, risky extraction mission. His target: Erik Lehnsherr.
Notes: This is a one-shot that I wished spanned forever. I love the premise and how the fit the two worlds together for this short while. I loved the touches of Charles and Erik.

Sherlock
Infiltrate (tear down the walls and the gate) by Skipand Di
Synopsis: Sherlock/Watson, epic, dark, angst. This is a moment Sherlock will look back to time and again as the future stalks forward; an instance he will use to justify his actions, the decisions he will make. He'd known Moriarty was working solely for his attention, even John had recognized as much during the first assault. But Sherlock has been a fool, a dangerous, incompetent fool, because this is so far beyond all that. It always has been.
Notes: Sooooo goooooood. Sprawling epic with amazing worldbuilding and it gets dark but no darker than TV!canon.

Thor
To Be Worthy Of The Road Not Taken by chinae
Synopsis: little Loki, super cute, pure fluff. From the prompt: Little Loki feels as if he can never repay his brother enough - he feels completely unworthy of his perfect sibling's attentions and love - so he struggles to be the best in everything that may impress Thor.
Notes: Um, super cute. Super super cute.
bikitchi: (Default)
I've been going on an X-men binge. Don't you judge me.

X-Men: First Class

♥♥ Nine Eleven Ten by Subtilior WiP
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Dystopia Beauty & the Beast AU, powers, dark epic, violence, dubcon, noncon, kidnapping, imprisonment. Years later, Charles would remember that day. Sometimes he would wonder if he could have changed anything; other times he would despair over what he had since become. But he would always hold the image in his mind: Raven, laughing, and his thoughts flying alongside her on strong wings, silver-gold through the winter air. Once upon a time.
Notes: I would seriously rec the shit out of across all rainbows and all unicorns except it's the opposite of fluff and happiness. Major triggers for violence, torture, noncon and dubcon. The noncon is non-penetrative (as of yet) but that doesn't make it any less horrifying. But I'm a sucker for world building and holy shit Subtilior did all that and more. The depth she goes into envisioning telepathy is nothing short of amazing. This is how I imagine Beauty & the Beast would've really gone down if there were powers and wars and crazy cray cray everywhere.

The changeling; or, The biography of Charles Xavier by aesc WiP
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Jane Eyre AU, powers, steampunk. In 1834, the changeling Charles Xavier, friendless and dispossessed of his fortune, arrives at Ironhill Hall to tutor the two young children of the mysterious, cranky Mr. Lehnsherr. Or, the one where XMFC meets Jane Eyre meets steampunk.
Notes: Read above.

Protégé by FicByFaith
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, one-sided Alex/Charles, pining, hurt/comfort, angsty. The first time it happens is out of bare necessity, nothing more. He's been back at the mansion for weeks and Charles still hasn’t come close to getting used to his legs. Or should he say the lack thereof. He’s been working with his own mind, trying to train himself the way he’d trained the children, make it so that he can live his life on his own terms again but it’s a slow process. An uphill battle with lead weights strapped to the limbs that work, dead, empty air engulfing the ones that don’t.
Notes: the voices aren't quite right for me but the feelings! The feelings are strong with this one. It's lovely.

MCIS: First Case by Pookaseraph
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, NCIS fusion, kidnapping, powers. Erik Lehnsherr considers himself a great MCIS agent, and he puts up with a lot from his boss - Moira MacTaggart - in the name of solving crimes against mutants, but he's not so sure about this new empath, Charles Xavier. Their first case together will test Erik's patience, but doubtless be the beginning of a brilliant friendship.
Notes: Great world-building and characterization. Amazing idea and well thought out. There's suspense, there's slow build-up (YES), there's everyone you love and everyone you hate and all this great stuff in between. What's great is that this piece is finished but the author plans on writing more. I AM FULL OF SUPPORT FOR THIS.

Boden's Mate
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Inception AU, no powers, violence, death, angst, epic. Erik is an extractor, Alex is his point man. They're assembling a team to go after the most dangerous mind in dreamsharing: Sebastian Shaw. But unless Alex and the team can keep him in check, Erik's desire for vengeance might just rip the whole job apart around them -- and then there's the shade that haunts his dreams...
Notes: Be ready for intense feelings. Holy shit, the feelings. Great world-building and characterization and intense build-up and twists and ideas and...! While I note 'no powers,' the author does a great job fusing their canonical powers into dream skills/assets. Go forth. READ.

Nerves series by
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, abusive childhood, mentions of non-con of a minor. Based on a prompt from the kink meme: Charles had an abusive childhood (like in the comics, but worse) and when he finally got away, he repressed everything behind mental walls, to the point he doesn't really remember anything about it. After the events of the movie, his mental state deteriorates, and those walls come down.
Notes: There's something quiet about this. I'm reading it in soft tones, almost a whisper and there's an eerie quality that resonates extremely well with the subject matter.

Linger by waldorph
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, pining, non-con body modification. Erik had been warned, to be fair. The realtor was very explicit that the last seventeen tenants had run from the premises screaming about the Exorcist or The Ring or some other terrible horror show.

The Eldest of the Gods by
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, historical AU, no powers. It's 1928, and sixteen-year-old Charles Xavier is intrigued by the new boy joining him at Eton College. He's thrilled to realize that they may be alike in more ways than one, but there's more standing between them than he can possibly guess.

Thor

If I let you catch me by Lunik
Synopsis: implied Thor/Loki, UST. So it goes like this -- Loki angers the gods, and then he runs. There is only one man in all the realms who can catch him with the wind at his heels. Naturally, he and Thor are the best of friends.
Notes: So fucking beautiful. I don't know the past the rough basics of Norse mythology and even then... very little. This felt... parts of it were lyrical and parts of it were abso-fucking-lutely brutal.

Sherlock BBC
Meet me inside by wakeneve
Synopsis: John/Sherlock, prison AU, violence, hurt/comfort. John and Sherlock meet in prison. John becomes Sherlock's prison-wife.
Notes: Bear with me! This sounds terrible (like Underground Hotel, agh) but it's not like that. There's no non-con. There is dubiously dubcon. It's... almost contractual sex. The why's of their sentence is part tv-canon and part-genius. The characterization is so spot-on... I need more of this in my life. Ungf.

SGA

How Not to Fly series by toomuchplor
Synopsis: Rodney/John, kid-fic, angst, fluff, minor character death.
Death and life, hope and hopelessness, aren't just for the Pegasus galaxy. Eventually, inevitably, it's going to happen on Earth. John and Rodney, loss and family and what it means to be home.
Notes: No m-preg and "Death of a minor canon character in a way integral to the plot; deals with bereavement and loss suffered by a major character. No major characters die in this story, however." This is a great story about loss and children and family and moving forward and everything amazing in life. Grab a tissue and be ready to cry both sad and happy tears.
