bikitchi: quinto making mind-meld gesture to pine (meld (k/s))
Twitter: bikitchi

This set of recs is something I'll be working on. It's more of what I've read currently and loved. I'll need to backtrack later to add other goodies in.

I add a quote from the fic under the synopsis. It's free of spoilers except for the fact that's it's a quotation and some might consider that in itself a spoiler. XD

This is not a masterlist of recs, but rather my top recs.

Semaphore - DevilDoll
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, (Pepper/Stark, Bucky/Steve, Peggy/Steve), coping!Steve, depression, jokes about suicide. "I’m trying to like you, Tony. You’re just making it very hard."
Notes: Steve's trying to cope with the 21st century. Tony's sorta kinda tries to help but not really at first. They both become BFFs with Steve's peer, an eldery hip lady too busy with her life and liver of steel to spend too much time with them, haha.

Look here, look back, look ahead - marinarusalka - Marvel, Iron Man Noir, Marvel Noir [Archive of Our Own]
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, Noir AU, first-time. September, 1941: Returning from a mission as Iron Man, Tony Stark crash-lands in the Carpathian Mountains and is rescued by Captain America. The two heroes team up to investigate Nazi activity at a mysterious castle. But Captain America is keeping secrets that could destroy their new partnership before it has a chance to begin.
Notes: I don't follow the comic-canon so I'm not sure if Marvel Noir is an actual thing or a fic trope but I'm definitely a fan! Nice sprawling fic and build-up.

♥♥Teasing the Paparazzi - nightwalker
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, established relationship. It's the morning after the night before and it's time for Steve and Tony to face the music.
Notes: This is actually the 3rd in the series but you don't need to read the first two (altho I'd recommend it). I just had to rec this because of the awesome Spider-man trolling Tony does: And of course, there are the threesomes. Just this morning, we woke up with Spider-Man and let me tell you, he was very happy to see me-

Gift of Asylum - carleton97, Sister_Wolf
Synopsis: Clint/Darcy, Pepper/Tony, Jane/Thor, Natasha/Steve, Fandral/Hogun, kidnapping, first-time, epic. The story of how Darcy Lewis accidentally helps found the Avengers while having an epic, failboaty romance with that dude she nailed in a bar two years ago. Tasers, jackbooted thugs, Tony Stark, and life-altering job offers are par for the course when you help discover an alien/god dude with amazing pecs.

Mr. July - jibrailis
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, shenanigans, first-time, pining!Tony. Tony is the only one who can defend Steve's virtue. Tony hates his life.

♥♥ Homefront - sam_storyteller
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, clueless!Tony, coping!Steve, mentions of suicidal impulses, PTSD, severe grief, unwise drinking, angst, first-time, fucking beautiful. Steve Rogers is a capable leader, a kind and cheerful man, a good friend, a strong role model, and a loyal soldier. He's also teetering on the edge of suicide.
Notes: So fucking beautiful. Tony's POV and all the little details and big details and so. many. feelings!

♥♥ Tomorrow Belongs To Me - valtyr
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, movie-verse, epic, team bonding, animal death. Steve wakes up in the 21st Century. He doesn't think much of it, and it's dubious about him. He meets a Norse God, joins a superhero team, and feels terribly awkward about the whole momument at Arlington he's rendered obsolete by not being dead. Meanwhile, Tony is trying to make his mark on history by being the man who finally drove Nick Fury over the edge.
Notes: Pretty much everything by valtyr is amazing. Steve's voice is spot-on and I love everything about this fic.

♥♥ W.I.P.E. - tsukinofaerii
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, Marvel 616, epic, amnesia. Open file TS_762-b.ims... Sometimes, when a drive is completely broken, the only thing to do is wipe it clean and start over. When he wakes up, Tony has no idea who he is, or what he did to end up where he is. Depending on who he talks to, he was a villain or a hero, a genius or a degenerate. What he is now is still up for debate, but it doesn't look like he's going to have much time to figure it out. With a computer in his head screwing up and a country falling to pieces, options are getting limited. Steve The world needs Iron Man a lot more than it needs Tony Stark.
Notes: I know nothing about comic canon but I'm learning through fic! Does that count? Prolly not. This is a sprawling epic that delves into a lot of difficult decisions and the core of a personality.

♥♥ Playing Rough - valtyr
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, ref to non-con, kink, consent-play, rough, fluff. Where (616) Tony and Steve stop being dumb and get together. Steve wants to be extra gentle with Tony after witnessing what the other one did to the other Tony, but is horrified to find that Tony was kind of unwillingly turned on by watching. He's even more horrified after Tony convinces him to roleplay non-con with him and realizes that it turns him on too.
Notes: Wow, um, yeah, super hot. And awesomely fluffy in parts.

♥♥ Cut To Fit - kellifer_fic
Synopsis: Clint/Darcy, Steve/Tony, Jane/Thor, domestic, fluff. When Jane moves into the mansion, she takes Darcy with her.
Notes: I really need more of this in my life. I love the interactions of Tony & Darcy on the rooftop scoping out their guys and the guys knowing their being scoped out and playing up their sparring/instructions with one another. Yessssssssss...!!

♥♥ Talking Trash and Wasting Time - victoria_p (musesfool)
Synopsis: Clint/Darcy, Tony/Pepper, Thor/Jane, romcom, drinking, bonding. The one where all the Avengers act like Darcy is a bro and Clint is really bad at flirting.
Notes: Super, SUPER cute.

♥♥ the best of life is but intoxication - kellifer_fic
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, Clint/Darcy, pining, jealousy. Where Steve and Darcy are platonic BFFs and Tony and Clint just aren't buying it.
Notes: Steve's pretty much Darcy's galpal and Tony and Clint are getting jealous!!111 C'mon, both Steve/Tony AND Clint/Darcy? EVERYTHING I LOVE, NOTHING I HATE.

Two Out of Three (Ain't Bad) - plingo_kat
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, fluff, hijinks. It blindsides him one morning in the middle of his customary third cup of coffee; Steve walks through the door in loose cotton pants, shirt pulled up to wipe the sweat off his face from his usual morning workout, and Tony thinks: adorable.
Notes: Tony stumbles onto the realization of his crush on Steve and proceeds to try to woo him. So. Cute.

Safeword - melannen
Synopsis: Tony/Stark/JARVIS, bdsm, voyeurism, bad decisions, bad bdsm etiquette. Tony Stark doesn't need to be safe, sane, and consensual. He has JARVIS instead. (Then he gets Steve.)
Notes: From JARVIS's POV, which I found very charming as JARVIS grew into his own personality. Tony makes incredibly terrible decisions so there are references to negative sexual encounters via bad bdsm etiquette.

♥♥ Average Avengers Local Chapter 7 of New York City - hetrez
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, first-time, slow-build, so fucking beautiful, ref to non-canon character suicide. Steve and Tony accidentally start a national do-gooders association and fall in love.
Notes: You will cry and they will be tears of both sadness and happiness because this is so fucking beautiful it hurts. Steve only wants the best for people and for people to be their best and it fucking spreads.

♥♥ You’ll Find the Bright Places - BlackEyedGirl
Synopsis: Coulson-centric, gen, de-aged Avengers. Fury temples his fingers together. “Tell me how this started?” Phil tries to give a reasonable report of today's incident. As he spent most of his day trying to keep grade-school aged versions of his team away from a team of gunmen, he has only limited success.
Notes: Everything I love, nothing I hate. Now I want more BAMF!Coulson taking care of de-aged Avengers. Fluff Steve/Tony if you squint but regardless, so fucking cute it hurts.

The Losers

By daybreak we'll be gone - storm_petrel
Synopsis: Cougar/Jensen, werewolf AU, canon violence, first-time. Once you go into the woods, you don’t come back out again; or, how Franklin Clay got himself a pack.
Notes: So good for me. Pining!Cougar and Pining!Oblivious!Jensen but also the pack dynamics and how they all come together.

Cockfight - kisahawklin
Synopsis: Cougar/Jensen, amnesia, dubious dubcon, violence, blowjob. Cougar's the reigning champion of the ring. He has to be, because it's the only way to survive, and that's all he knows how to do.
Notes: A little heartbreaking due to Cougar's condition but holy fuck that blowjob scene was hot.

the antechamber of another world - kisahawklin
Synopsis: Cougar/Jensen, steampunk AU, first-time, hurt-comfort. When Jensen went to the market that day, he didn't know what he'd been expecting - but it certainly wasn't Cougar.
Notes: Loved the steampunk details; the horse sounds amaaazing. Loved the slow build between Cougar and Jensen. And Aisha sounds fucking scary, jesus.

Our Gift to God - shiny_n_new
Synopsis: Sherlock/Watson, Gods AU. The Holmes siblings are gods, ruling over England. John goes to Sherlock, the dangerous and unpredictable one, to beg for help.
Notes: Very cool world, loved the bits about god!Mycroft and the interaction between Sherlock & John.

♥♥ The Pleasure-Dome Hotel - raiining
Synopsis: Sherlock/John, BDSM AU, hooker!John, first-time. In the BDSM world AU Sherlock would totally make John strip for him. And kneel. And ... do other stuff.
Notes: "Sherlock pressed his finger on the keypad and ran a critical eye over the hotel room after the door unlocked and opened."

Seven Magpies - syllic
Synopsis: Arthur/Merlin, AU, BAMF!Merlin, universe swapping. Arthur opened his eyes a minute later to the sight of seven magpies streaking across the top of the clearing, their shapes dark against the white clouds and the muted grey of the sky. He tried to remember what it was that seven magpies meant—he'd had a nurse who had sung the rhyme to him as a child—but couldn't.
Notes: Really interesting worldbuilding of a Camelot where Arthur falls into a world where he's the manservant of Merlin.

Junni Kokki / Twelve Kingdoms
A Great Storm in the Sky, the Sun in the North - daphnerunning
Synopsis: Post-canon, canon-level violence. Following the events of "The Shore in Twilight, the Sky in Daybreak," Taiki and Risai attempt to liberate the Kingdom of Tai. But that may not be as easy as it seems, when traitors style themselves heroes, and the King is nowhere to be found.
Notes: One of the best JK fics I've found. The ending seems a bit too easy but I could envision as if it actually happen.

Spock as a Ravenclaw!
bikitchi: (Default)
So I read Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games trilogy a bajillion years late. I devoured it within 24 hours and wrung out every bit of feelings I had and more. It really hit me hard and I wish there was more fic for it but I found an amazing series I rec'd below.

The Hunger Games
Scylla and Charybdis, Wisely, I Say, I Am A Bachelor & A View from the Lists by Mithrigil & puella_nerdii
Synopsis: Finnick/Annie, canon-level: violence, gore, death, dubcon, forced prostitution, moments of fluff, happy ending jfc. Finnick decides that, come hell or high water, he is bringing his tribute home from the seventieth Hunger Games. That tribute is Annie Cresta. But Finnick never thought that he would have to choose between bringing her home and keeping her safe, and he wants both. How Annie Cresta crept up on Finnick Odair.
Notes: This is so fucking beautiful it hurts. ~60,000 words and I wish it went forever. It's rough, just as rough and real as canon but with a soothing touch here and there and a beautiful happy ending. It also has the rumblings of a prequel to The Hunger Games, expanded in it's subsequent sequels.

Ashes and Flame (Every You and Every Me) by freneticfloetry
Synopsis: Peeta/Katniss, post-canon, fucking beautiful. Peeta comes home, still unsure what the word means.
Notes: This is the epilogue told from Peeta's POV and it's fucking beautiful. Prepare to cry but also heal. The characters were spot-on and the little expanding upon canon (Haymitch's geese, Peeta's baking...) were just what I need to help soothe my ravaged feelings.

X-men: First Class

Progression of a Family Portrait by Xris
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, canon AU, kidfic, kidnapping, epic. “You’re sure we can handle one more?” Hank asks from the sidelines.
Notes: Post-divorce, Charles is setting up the school and on a trip for a new gifted child, he stumbles across Lorna. AND THEN FEELINGS BURST ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Hellfire AU by Cesare & helens78
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Dystopia AU, slavery. Erik Lehnsherr has been searching for Sebastian Shaw for close to a decade, and the trail's led him to an exclusive club that rents enslaved and collared mutants to wealthy humans for a variety of sexual uses. Posing there, he meets one of the club's patrons, Charles Xavier, who isn't what the club thinks he is, either. Is Charles going to be an ally, or is he going to stand in Erik's way?
Notes: There's some characterization that's a big rough around the edges at times but the worldbuilding was well-done. It's an ongoing series but each fic is pretty much stand-alone.

The Changeling Prince by Regann
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Fairytale AU, first-time. While seeking help to break a magical curse, a soldier named Erik finds himself trying to solve the mystery of a young prince's illness, a task that leads him deeper into the fickle world of the fae than he ever imagined.

I Ain't Scared of Lightning by kaydeefalls
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, canon AU, bamf!Charles, angst, minor character death, world rebuilding. "Shaw has someone very dear to me," Charles said in a low tone. "You're not the only one playing for keeps, Erik."
Notes: Holy bananas, this AU is amazing. I loved the minute changes in canon and the consequences upon character personality (Charles most obvious) and how it shapes Erik & Charles's interaction and Raven and Darwin's badassery and Alex and everything.

Omega by apokteino
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, AU. Wherein the world decides to deal with mutants with utter segregation. All mutants are placed on Genosha, and all children are tested at birth for the mutant gene, and sent to Genosha if they have it, to be adopted by other mutants. Years later, Charles Xavier's parents bribe officials to keep their child, and he grows up utterly alone in a human world. But all that changes ...
Notes: Lovely worldbuilding with an overarching plot that finished nicely.

Luther (BBC)
Strong Interactions by Speranza
Synopsis: John/Alice, post-S1 AU.
Notes: Ungf, fucking love me some Speranza and I love BBC's Luther. Never thought of looking for fic and holy shit this hit the spot. Great Alice voice, great Luther characterization and a short lovely read that's sweet even with some bloodshed (not as graphic as canon)

Heroes & Devils by marinarusalka
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, Echo-Bazaar AU, dark, mind-control, epic. Three years after Dr. Doom cast the entire island of Manhattan into the dark depths of the Echo Bazaar, life goes on. The people of Lowered Manhattan, including the Avengers, have adapted as best they could to their shadowy new existence. But then the Avengers find themselves in possession of a mysterious locked box that could save them all -- if it doesn't kill Tony first.
Notes: Epic demonic saga. You don't need to know canon Echo Bazaar (I don't) to pick up the world. Great worldbuilding and characterization.

Arms and the Man by sam-storyteller
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, first-time, brief PTSD. His best friend keeps cockblocking him, his relationship guru is a computer, and he might be gay. The future is very complicated.
Notes: Super-cute. Oblivious Steve is obliviously gay and oblivious Tony is totally oblivious.

age is an irrational number by valtyr
Synopsis: Steve/Tony, major-character death, happy ending, angst, multiple orgasms. Steve and Tony grow old together.
Notes: Um, my tags are pretty ridiculous on this one. You will cry lots. There will be too many feelings. and there will also be some ridiculously hot porn and fluff.

Time Watches From the Shadow by shadesofbrixton
Synopsis: Steve/Bucky, Firefly/Avengers Fusion. Post-Serenity spoilers. Mostly movie-verse Avengers, plus some...other stuff?
Notes: I didn't even know I wanted this. Shiiiiit, so good. The world-fusing has a few shaky moments but many great ones. And a lovely ending that filled me with feeeeeelings!

Lacuna by coloredink
Synopsis: Sherlock/John, amnesia, mild dubcon. God, it must have been terrible, to think that he would never have this again.
Notes: John suffers some amnesia and comes to the conclusion he and Sherlock are dating. Super cute for the most part.

Star Trek (2009)
How We Are (but not how we're going to be) by alpha_hydra
Synopsis: Kirk/Spock, post-STXI, Spock POV. Even when they hate each other, they're still sort of falling in love.
Notes: A little difficult to dive in at first. Kirk & Spock utterly fail to understand each other in their attempts to understand one another and it's a mess and they get fired from their first therapist. Yeah, Bones makes them go to couple's therapy to help create a healthy professional relationship.

♥ The Lotus Eaters by aldora89
Synopsis: Kirk/Spock, first-time, epic, mind-control. Stranded on the planet Sigma Nox while searching for a missing away team, Spock and Kirk find themselves pitted against a disturbing native life form. With the captain out of commission on a regular basis and Spock struggling to preserve his stoicism, staying alive is difficult enough – but when a slim chance for escape surfaces, their resolve is truly put to the test. Together they must fight for survival in the heart of an alien jungle, and in the process, uncover the mystery of the planet’s past.
Notes: Slow-burning epic of Spock and Kirk surviving on their own on an relatively unknown planet with a disturbing native life form. The build up between them is maddeningly aching. UGH, SO GOOD.

I've gotten a few subscribers! Yes, I count two as a few. I'll try to be good about tagging everything appropriately but I don't always keep the best of notes.

Sometimes I'm afraid I over-tag or the tags will seem like the entire story encompasses torture or violence. I'll still tag them for it but most only have a small instance of it. I try to note it if it's ridiculously violent or dark (aka Nine Eleven Ten)

Also, I've watched BBC Sherlock 02x01 and I rather enjoyed it. I had some issues with certain things but overall I still had fun.

My next set of recs will have some Star Trek in it. I know this has been XMFC central but it's been super easy to find lots of great epics while Star Trek seems to be prepping for STXII or such. I've been going through the Big Bang pieces but slowly.

X-men: First Class

Charles' Killer by luchia
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, modern serial killer/detective AU, kidnapping, torture, dark. When detective Charles Xavier finds himself hunting down a vendetta-driven serial killer, it doesn't take long for him to realize he's in over his head. It only takes a little longer for him to realize his killer is, too.
Notes: Incredible characterization. Impossible decisions. An underlining mystery. It's amazing.

Let Them Talk by manic_intent
Synopsis: Logan/Charles, D/S AU, imprinting, implied dub-con/non-con, implied domestic abuse, BAMF!Logan, human!Charles. There are stories where Charles is Erik’s sub and they are both happy, but what about some more angsty theme? AU where mutants and humans live together but mutants think themselves more important and often treat humans like dirt. Sub/Dom pairs are created by imprinting. Mutants generally imprint on mutants and Erik who is the most powerful among them thinks that he will have equally powerful sub. Turns out that he imprints on Charles – a brilliant yet entirely human Professor. Cue Erik being disgusted and angry with his Sub, which Charles takes really hard. Erik is ashamed of him, and doesn’t want him to associate with other mutants, but slowly Charles charms his way to the hearts of everyone and one day another mutant (Logan pretty please?) challenges Erik’s claim over Xavier.
Notes: Charles is meek and human in this so that takes a bit getting used to but his growth is beautiful. Logan is awesome and super understanding and patient and all he wants is the best of things for Charles in his stoic way. Raven's clique are all BAMFy and Tony Stark makes an appearance and it's GREAT. Erik is pretty harshly portrayed in this but I felt within the realm of being matched with a human. Brought up some interesting thoughts on human!Charles interaction. I really loved this piece although some of the following sequels weren't as strong (but still fun to read)

Rescue Run by rebooting WiP
Synopsis: light Erik/Charles, abduction, torture, sexual assault. Sixteen months after the beach, Erik sends Emma on a routine sweep to ensure that the Westchester mansion is still all right, and finds out that Charles, Hank, Alex, Sean, and a re-formed Darwin have been taken. Despite their prior enmity, Erik and Moira join forces to find out who is behind the disappearance, and what they'll need to do to bring their friends back home.
Notes: This is pretty dark so it's not for the faint of heart. Excuse the accidental psuedo-rhyme. Characterizations are a little off (to me) but it was still an engrossing read. There are many heartbroken parts. Prepare tissues.

No Yesterdays On The Road by pocky_slash
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, post-beach!AU, abduction. It's been two months since Cuba and things are settling down for Charles, Erik, and the beginnings of their mutant school. Right up until Charles disappears, that is. Faced with the possibility that a bitter Emma Frost has kidnapped Charles, Erik is forced to team up with Moira to hunt down the remainder of the Hellfire Club. From there, they hope to locate Frost and retrieve Charles, without killing each other along the way.
Notes: This was so good for me. Moira's & Erik's interactions were spot-on and the journey their enmity-to-begruding-friendship-la-la was awesome. Loved it. Plus, kid!Jean Grey! The ending!

♥♥ Three Kinds of Learning & The Stuff National Anthems Are Made Of by luchia
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, abduction, imprisonment, BAMF!Charles. Erik intends to recruit Raven's supposedly amazing, all-powerful older brother. Instead, he finds himself dealing with Charles Xavier, a weak, tweed-addled professor who seems to think powers don't matter nearly as much as personality. Erik's misconceptions are blown apart when Raven goes missing.
Notes: This helped me discover my love for reigning!Erik & reining!Charles. The journey into Erik & Charles feelings is slow and sweet and steady and lovely. Bemused!Erik is the best Erik, second to badassrighteous!Erik. I fucking love everything in this series.

Blood and Steel and Miles Between
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, beach AU, hurt/comfort, bittersweet, epic. On a beach in Cuba, Charles manages to talk Erik down from the edge. But even after the missiles have been diverted, compromise is impossible. There are two different futures to build, and Erik and Charles will always be separated by their principles. But when Charles is kidnapped and the X-Men can't find him, Erik will get him back no matter the consequences.
Notes: So fucking good for me. So. Fucking. Gooooooood.

Thing by pointwoman
Synopsis: Arthur/Eames, fluffy, as-kids!fic. For the kink-meme prompt: I want Eames and Arthur like toddlers. Eames absolutely knowing that he is gonna marry arthur when they grown up
Notes: So cute I think I became diabetic. Eames counts his little allowance as part of his way to keep Arthur the way he is accustomed. OMG FLAIL.
bikitchi: (Default)
Just saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie and it was sooooo gooooood for me. I loved it!

I got lazy with notes... so, some are missing. >_>;;

Once Upon a Time
Übermorgen hol ich mir der Königin ihr Kind by waldorph
Synopsis: fairytale AU, Rumpelstiltskin-centric. Rumpelstiltskin really just wants a child.
Notes: This reads like a fairytale and it's a wonderful little story.

X-men: First Class
I Want You To Hold Me Back by helens78
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, pwp, orgasm denial, begging. It started with a dare; Charles lifting an eyebrow and saying, "I could stop you going over, you know."
Notes: Uggh, so hot. This hit all my spots.

Masters of the Universe by Nezumi Pi WiP
Synopsis: gen Erik/Charles, modern AU,powers, dark, angst, as kids. Modern-day's not clear whether or not powers exist, but if they do, they certainly aren't obvious. Erik Lensherr is a profoundly disturbed twelve-year-old who hears Charles Xavier as a voice in his head. Things you will find in this story: an out-of-control teenage Tony Stark, a green card marriage, and a sinister plot (not necessarily in that order).

It's All Coming Back to Me by Regann
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, deathfic, angst.
Notes: There were a few times the characters felt a bit off but it was lovely nonetheless. It's a deathfic but there's a bit of twist.

Skin Deep series by manic_intent
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Werewolf AU, genderswitch shifter. Written for the kmeme, Everyone-is-a-werewolf AU. Erik happens upon a seemingly abandoned mansion in Westchester during a full moon and finds an insanely clueless werewolf living in isolation.
Notes: Nice worldbuilding regarding werewolves. A nice long reaaaad.

Time to Grow by zarah5
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, . In which you'll find chess dates which aren't dates (or maybe Charles is wrong about that). -- Based on First Class, this turns (slightly) AU during the beach scene.

Wisteria by kay-cricketed
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, . Erik hates being unable to hide just how much he wants Charles.

break through the cracks and bring me home by acetamide
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, angst, pining . So, while the helmet is pretty handy in keeping telepathic nuisances out of Erik's head, there are plenty of other reasons why it's inconvenient. Like, it'd sure be great if Emma could warn Erik in his mind if something bad is coming while she's on watch. So, Erik decides the helmet is flawed. He has one reconstructed that allows telepaths to send thoughts to him, but denies them the ability to control his mind. Sort of like having a one-way radio.
Notes: The pining! The emotion!

never too late to be who you might have been by acetamide
Synopsis: Erik/Charles . Erik wakes suddenly and takes a deep breath, and realises that there is nothing.

Geas by thezeppelins
Synopsis: light Erik/Charles, Thor cross-over, dark!Loki. I have written… (da da da daah!) …an X-men / Thor crossover! It’s not really a crossover, because these things canonically take place in the same world, but I always think that X-men (the movies at least) don’t gel too well with superheroes.
Notes: Reads like a fairytale and almost chilling. Main events happen per canon.

Every Piece of You by unveiled
Synopsis: implied Erik/Charles, Inception crossover, dreamshare deaths. Eames is hired for an urgent, risky extraction mission. His target: Erik Lehnsherr.
Notes: This is a one-shot that I wished spanned forever. I love the premise and how the fit the two worlds together for this short while. I loved the touches of Charles and Erik.

Infiltrate (tear down the walls and the gate) by Skipand Di
Synopsis: Sherlock/Watson, epic, dark, angst. This is a moment Sherlock will look back to time and again as the future stalks forward; an instance he will use to justify his actions, the decisions he will make. He'd known Moriarty was working solely for his attention, even John had recognized as much during the first assault. But Sherlock has been a fool, a dangerous, incompetent fool, because this is so far beyond all that. It always has been.
Notes: Sooooo goooooood. Sprawling epic with amazing worldbuilding and it gets dark but no darker than TV!canon.

To Be Worthy Of The Road Not Taken by chinae
Synopsis: little Loki, super cute, pure fluff. From the prompt: Little Loki feels as if he can never repay his brother enough - he feels completely unworthy of his perfect sibling's attentions and love - so he struggles to be the best in everything that may impress Thor.
Notes: Um, super cute. Super super cute.
bikitchi: (Default)
Had to mess around with a doodle~~ I've been envisioning ST main crew sorted via HP canon. Here's Kirk as a Gryffindor!

I've been going on an X-men binge. Don't you judge me.

X-Men: First Class

♥♥ Nine Eleven Ten by Subtilior WiP
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Dystopia Beauty & the Beast AU, powers, dark epic, violence, dubcon, noncon, kidnapping, imprisonment. Years later, Charles would remember that day. Sometimes he would wonder if he could have changed anything; other times he would despair over what he had since become. But he would always hold the image in his mind: Raven, laughing, and his thoughts flying alongside her on strong wings, silver-gold through the winter air. Once upon a time.
Notes: I would seriously rec the shit out of across all rainbows and all unicorns except it's the opposite of fluff and happiness. Major triggers for violence, torture, noncon and dubcon. The noncon is non-penetrative (as of yet) but that doesn't make it any less horrifying. But I'm a sucker for world building and holy shit Subtilior did all that and more. The depth she goes into envisioning telepathy is nothing short of amazing. This is how I imagine Beauty & the Beast would've really gone down if there were powers and wars and crazy cray cray everywhere.

The changeling; or, The biography of Charles Xavier by aesc WiP
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Jane Eyre AU, powers, steampunk. In 1834, the changeling Charles Xavier, friendless and dispossessed of his fortune, arrives at Ironhill Hall to tutor the two young children of the mysterious, cranky Mr. Lehnsherr. Or, the one where XMFC meets Jane Eyre meets steampunk.
Notes: Read above.

Protégé by FicByFaith
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, one-sided Alex/Charles, pining, hurt/comfort, angsty. The first time it happens is out of bare necessity, nothing more. He's been back at the mansion for weeks and Charles still hasn’t come close to getting used to his legs. Or should he say the lack thereof. He’s been working with his own mind, trying to train himself the way he’d trained the children, make it so that he can live his life on his own terms again but it’s a slow process. An uphill battle with lead weights strapped to the limbs that work, dead, empty air engulfing the ones that don’t.
Notes: the voices aren't quite right for me but the feelings! The feelings are strong with this one. It's lovely.

MCIS: First Case by Pookaseraph
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, NCIS fusion, kidnapping, powers. Erik Lehnsherr considers himself a great MCIS agent, and he puts up with a lot from his boss - Moira MacTaggart - in the name of solving crimes against mutants, but he's not so sure about this new empath, Charles Xavier. Their first case together will test Erik's patience, but doubtless be the beginning of a brilliant friendship.
Notes: Great world-building and characterization. Amazing idea and well thought out. There's suspense, there's slow build-up (YES), there's everyone you love and everyone you hate and all this great stuff in between. What's great is that this piece is finished but the author plans on writing more. I AM FULL OF SUPPORT FOR THIS.

Boden's Mate
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, Inception AU, no powers, violence, death, angst, epic. Erik is an extractor, Alex is his point man. They're assembling a team to go after the most dangerous mind in dreamsharing: Sebastian Shaw. But unless Alex and the team can keep him in check, Erik's desire for vengeance might just rip the whole job apart around them -- and then there's the shade that haunts his dreams...
Notes: Be ready for intense feelings. Holy shit, the feelings. Great world-building and characterization and intense build-up and twists and ideas and...! While I note 'no powers,' the author does a great job fusing their canonical powers into dream skills/assets. Go forth. READ.

Nerves series by
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, abusive childhood, mentions of non-con of a minor. Based on a prompt from the kink meme: Charles had an abusive childhood (like in the comics, but worse) and when he finally got away, he repressed everything behind mental walls, to the point he doesn't really remember anything about it. After the events of the movie, his mental state deteriorates, and those walls come down.
Notes: There's something quiet about this. I'm reading it in soft tones, almost a whisper and there's an eerie quality that resonates extremely well with the subject matter.

Linger by waldorph
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, pining, non-con body modification. Erik had been warned, to be fair. The realtor was very explicit that the last seventeen tenants had run from the premises screaming about the Exorcist or The Ring or some other terrible horror show.

The Eldest of the Gods by
Synopsis: Erik/Charles, historical AU, no powers. It's 1928, and sixteen-year-old Charles Xavier is intrigued by the new boy joining him at Eton College. He's thrilled to realize that they may be alike in more ways than one, but there's more standing between them than he can possibly guess.

If I let you catch me by Lunik
Synopsis: implied Thor/Loki, UST. So it goes like this -- Loki angers the gods, and then he runs. There is only one man in all the realms who can catch him with the wind at his heels. Naturally, he and Thor are the best of friends.
Notes: So fucking beautiful. I don't know the past the rough basics of Norse mythology and even then... very little. This felt... parts of it were lyrical and parts of it were abso-fucking-lutely brutal.

Sherlock BBC
Meet me inside by wakeneve
Synopsis: John/Sherlock, prison AU, violence, hurt/comfort. John and Sherlock meet in prison. John becomes Sherlock's prison-wife.
Notes: Bear with me! This sounds terrible (like Underground Hotel, agh) but it's not like that. There's no non-con. There is dubiously dubcon. It's... almost contractual sex. The why's of their sentence is part tv-canon and part-genius. The characterization is so spot-on... I need more of this in my life. Ungf.

How Not to Fly series by toomuchplor
Synopsis: Rodney/John, kid-fic, angst, fluff, minor character death.
Death and life, hope and hopelessness, aren't just for the Pegasus galaxy. Eventually, inevitably, it's going to happen on Earth. John and Rodney, loss and family and what it means to be home.
Notes: No m-preg and "Death of a minor canon character in a way integral to the plot; deals with bereavement and loss suffered by a major character. No major characters die in this story, however." This is a great story about loss and children and family and moving forward and everything amazing in life. Grab a tissue and be ready to cry both sad and happy tears.

Star Trek (2009)
The Virgin King (of the Spoctoria series) by waldorph
Synopsis: Kirk/Spock, first-time, epic. Jim never wants anything from Spock except the impossible: stop terrible re-imaginings of their romance, and make peace with the Romulans.
Quote: The opinion is shared, with the tabloids’ persistent theme of HRM’S BADBOY FIANCE NO VIRGIN: PALACE INSIDERS FURIOUS. Somehow the consensus is that Spock should be mad that he’s not going to be Jim’s first.
Notes: Please see above.

Avengers (2012) / Iron Man (movies) / Captain America (2011)

Start as You Mean to Go by Black Eyed Girl
Synopsis: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, first-time. Tony gets that the others think this is an ego thing - the way he can’t resist pushing Steve’s buttons. Honest-to-God, the guy just bugs him. Mostly because Steve is distractingly perfect, but a little bit because of the family history.
Quotes: Tony gets that the others think this is an ego thing - the way he can’t resist pushing Steve’s buttons. Honest-to-God, the guy just bugs him. Mostly because Steve is distractingly perfect, but a little bit because of the family history.
Notes: Yet another fandom I'm jumping into... I love this. I love Stark's voice in this.

Magnetic series by boombangbig
Synopsis: Steve/Tony/Pepper, OT3, first-time. Tony and Pepper are in a committed relationship, everyone knows that. Tony still flirts relentlessly with Steve, though, and Steve doesn't know what to make of it. Then he starts having weird feelings about Pepper too, and he really, really doesn't know what to make of that.
Quote: “You smell good,” he says. “Why do you always smell good? Like... the man your man could smell like.”
Notes: I've discovered my new OT3. I thought all the voices were captured quite well and I loved Tony & Pepper's relationship in this.

Rock Splits, Records Fall Down by Valtyr
Synopsis: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, first-time, possible dubcon (drunk). AU at the end of Ultimates 2. Time passes. The Ultimates try to work out where they're going and what they're doing, with a moderate level of success. Also, check out the gorgeous covers by skyearth85: here
Quote: "You've got to get yourself a doctorate, Stevie boy, or you'll never lure in the ladies."
Notes: This isn't movie-verse as noted in the author's synopsis/notes. But it's still understandable to a comic-verse virgin and I thought it was lovely.

This time tomorrow (where were we?) by dorcas_gustine
Synopsis: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, comic-verse, slightly dark, psuedo-death (kinda). Tony goes to see Wanda, and suddenly Steve is alive and there are Skrulls! Or maybe Tony is just going crazy. Nothing happens in this fic, until the very end. Seriously. There's a lot of talking, mostly at inopportune moments, Tony's views on the acceptable gifts to give people are slightly different from everyone else's and he spends more time than would seem necessary being (half-)naked. What else is new?
Quote: "Isn't it strange?" she says, after a long time, but the voice is far away, at the edge of his consciousness. "You close your eyes and the world disappears."
Notes: Another fic more comic-verse but it's definitely understandable to a comic-verse virgin like myself. I'm starting to see main canon points as I read through these fics. I will warn that Tony's thoughts get dark and it's a bit gut-wrenching but so beautiful at the same time.

Thor (2011)

Paper Planes & Playground Games by Mekosuchinae (LJ) or Memlu (AO3)
Synopsis: Sif/Loki. I alone know, as I think I do know, / your love beside Thor, / and that was the wicked Loki.
Quote: "Who wants to play with you?" Sif snapped.
Notes: I leaned more towards Thor/Loki during the movie but this... It just got me aflutter. Take a chance and read it.

Hawaii 5-0 (2011)
Sex Pollen by waldorph
Synopsis: what it says on the tin.
Quote: “Hospital,” Steve gasps, gripping the rusty pipe on the wall like it’s his salvation or something. Like his dick isn’t going to break out of his pants.
Notes: Steve/Danny, sex-pollen. See left.

Sherlock BBC
This Gold Thread by versateine
Synopsis: Implied John/Sherlock, Space AU. She had studied the Legend of John more than any other. Now one of the protagonists of that story is standing in front of her in the flesh.
Notes: There's a lyrical quality to this of a fairytale nature. Short and bittersweet.

I Used to Live Alone Before I Knew You by etothepii
Synopsis: John/Sherlock, Good Omens fusion, first-time. Where Mycroft is an angel, Sherlock is a demon, and John is still John.
Quote: John stumbles into Sherlock's life by chance, and he is, surprisingly enough, a good man. Actually a good man, not just a man who considers himself good, or one who does good things in order to impress others.
Notes: Wonderfully done! I just wanted to stay in this world forevers.

The(y) Kiss by methimyesterday
Quote: If this were a romance novel, there would be a fire, two glasses of wine and roses.
Notes: Sherlock/Watson. Lyrical, beautifully formatted and such beautiful prose.

White Collar
a family trait by Teaotter
Synopsis: Neal/Peter/Elizabeth, first-time. It’s hardly the strangest thing Neal has done since going to work for the Bureau of Paranormal Investigations.
Quote: "Neal? I. This is kind of embarrassing, but I need a favor. Could you drop by the house? Soon? I'm not sure who else to call..."
Notes: I would love to see more in this 'verse. such a wonderful concept! Also, super hot.
bikitchi: standing unicorn (pic#709487)
Um, it's been a while... but here we go!

Lately I've been wanting some good ol' kidfic of the de-aged!fic subgenre...

the ups and downs of you by [personal profile] raphaela667
Synopsis: Starfleet era, de-aged!fic. Starfleet first officers did not regress to childhood without at least submitting prior warning to their commanding officers. They'd established that after the whole Pon Farr mess last year. There were rules about Vulcan biology and scaring the hell out of Jim now. This had to be in violation of at least three of them.
Quote: We’ll find out what little Vulcans like to eat, anyway
Notes: Super. Cute.

Imprint by [profile] db_mmxx WiP
Synopsis: Starfleet era, de-aged!fic, pre-slash. After a mission goes wrong, Kirk must deal with a de-aged Spock and fight to keep them both alive. Spock grows attached and begins to worry that he won’t remember his time with Kirk once he’s changed back.
Quote: "I am Spock," he said in a small, level voice. "You know my name, but I profess to having no knowledge of who you are or how I came to be here."
Notes: I resonate with the characterization and Spock's inner musings provide me with much amusement and tears. It's like crack to me.

Present by
Synopsis: Starfleet-era, de-aged!kidfic, gen, fluff. A fill for this prompt at st_xi_kink: Kirk/Spock. Deaged!Spock (around 5 or 6) doing arts and crafts. He makes something sweet for Kirk
Quote: It was probably, Sulu mused, the cutest thing he'd ever seen, and he shared the bridge with Pavel Chekov.
Notes: Super ridiculously cute.

The Ivy Crown by ladyblahblah WiP
Synopsis: Starfleet-era, de-aged!kidfic. Vague A/U. What would have happened if Kirk and Spock had known each other as children? Yes, another one of those.
Quote: There’s nothing fun about Vulcans. They’re logical and boring and, if Jim’s being completely honest, just the tiniest bit scary.
Notes: Engrossing, character driven and a must read.

Harry Potter
Secrets by Vorabiza
Synopsis: Beginning with Draco's unexpected arrival at the Dursleys, Harry's summer after sixth year becomes filled with activity and many secrets. As his summer progresses, Harry generates several unexpected allies as he finds himself actively becoming the leader of the Light side.

Music: Ke$ha's Tik Tok
Notes: Hilarious. A variety of clips so maybe a spoiler in terms of footage but doesn't betray plots or anything.

Notes: Character piece on Mozzie and it's lovely. Loved the techniques in motion design!

Sweet Precisions and Soft Collisions Series: six things that changed, its sequel, and then this, followed by McCoy had some thoughts, while Spock got some tea and made some decisions, and Pike had some problems but before any of that could happen, Jim got homesick by raphaela667
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Childhood AU. (Kirk/Spock) For [personal profile] jamjar who requested an AU where Jim was on Vulcan as a kid where he meets Spock, I didn't get all your bonuses in and I'm sorry. This is quite the little 'verse in my head now though.
Notes: Also sort of an Academy AU with the childhood AU element... I wish there was a masterpost of it all but I'm tried to assemble it here for convenience! Mostly a string of ficlets but strung together beautifully.
Quote: They all follow Jim around, and she swears up and down that Stonn's died his hair blond and grown it out to cover his ears. T'Pring has started wearing jeans.

Helloooo, Nurse! by [personal profile] lalazee
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Med AU (Kirk/Spock) Jim Kirk is the only male nurse on the Enterprise. He’s also the only one with any experience with Vulcan biology. You can guess who he’s been assigned to.
Notes: Spock's characterization is absolutely delicious. The slow, slow, slow pace of their relationship just made my heart swell. You can really feel the emotion rise. Absolutely lovely. Definitely going in my top rec list.
Quote: No Human doctor or nurse had ever thought to utilise a heating lamp during Spock’s physicals.

Faultlines by what-alchemy
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Genderswap, Established. (Kirk/Spock) Conveniently placed flowers turn Spock into a woman. No one’s happy about it.
Notes: Genderswap isn't my kink but this dealt with the the psychological stress of the change. How gender affects a person, not hormonally, but the mental state of being. It's lovely and real and you should read it.

Streetlight People by ladyblahblah
Synopsis: Starfleet era, AU, Epic. (Kirk/Spock) Strangers waitin', up and down the boulevard, their shadows searchin' in the night. Streetlight people, living just to find emotion; hiding somewhere in the night.
Notes:This... is just so very good. Long fic with great characterization.

Harry Potter

Says The Magpie To The Morning (Sorrow, Take Your Own Advice by femmequixotic
Synopsis: Post DH, Angst, Draco POV. (Harry/Draco) It's terribly bad form, sleeping with your ex when you're still half in love with the bastard
Notes: The depth of emotion is shattering.
Quote: "Ten, the love my own heart's missing."
bikitchi: (wiggly caterpillar)
One of the things I love about White Collar fandom/fanfic is how well-done the threesome dynamic is written. I'd actually really like to see some of this quality transfered to a Spock/Kirk/Uhura dynamic. I've enjoyed reading some but few have I loved (Hounds of Morrigan comes to mind).

You'll notice a lot of repeat authors. That's because I don't actively search out too much fic in other fandoms besides Star Trek right now. But that could change. X3

Star Trek

Downloaded Series by ennyousai
Synopsis: BSG fusion/crossover, Starfleet era, Angst, Hurt/Comfort. (Kirk/McCoy) Crossover between Star Trek XI and Battlestar Galactica 2003
Notes: You don't need to have knowledge of Battlestar Galatica prior to reading.

Beware Greeks by janice-lester
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Mpreg, Crackfic. (Kirk/Spock) Aliens have done something to Jim, and only Spock seems to notice. And oh boy does he notice!
Notes: I'm not usually a fan of mpreg as they tend to read incredibly OOC to me (and not just in that hormonal sort of way) but the author keeps a great Kirk voice throughout.
James T. Kirk was not a man to let a little thing like pregnancy interfere with picking up chicks.

White Collar

Always Starts the Same, with a Boy and a Girl by [personal profile] lightgetsin
Synopsis: Modern AU. (Neal/Elizabeth, Neal/Elizabeth/Peter) Summer, 1998. Neal Caffrey robs the gallery where Elizabeth O'Dell is working late, and comes away with a lot more than art. Agent Burke has no idea what's about to hit him.
Notes: A great exploration of a what-if scenario: Neal meets Elizabeth first. Cue the FBI agent. I can totally see this and now I just want more!
Quote: Peter punched a wall and then laughed, all in the first sixty seconds.

Never Leave a Trace by [personal profile] sam_storyteller
Synopsis: Fantasy elements. (Peter/Neal/Elizabeth) Neal Caffrey can steal souls. Peter Burke has two shadows. Everything's normal...except when it isn't.
Notes: I read this when it was posted but that was pre-reccing period. XD This reads like a gritty fairytale but keeps all the characters intact. Lovelovelove.
Quote: He'd once drawn a bird so real it flew off the page. He couldn't be tattooed; the ink ran right out of his skin while he slept.

Somewhere I Have Never Traveled by [personal profile] sam_storyteller
Synopsis: Modern AU, Company Man-verse. (Peter/Neal) In another universe, Peter Burke went corporate. He wouldn't have met Neal Caffrey -- except Neal tried to rob his company. And Peter, naturally, caught him.
Notes: I wanted this so badly when I saw "Company Man" and it was delicious as I envisioned.
Quote: This meal is gonna cost more than that suit you're wearing.

Exquisite by [personal profile] sam_storyteller
Synopsis: Episodic. (Peter/Neal/Elizabeth) There's a place in Neal Caffrey's head where he doesn't have to lie to himself or be three steps ahead of the other guy, but so far only Peter has found it -- and Peter won't give him what he really wants. Elizabeth, meanwhile, is slowly adjusting to the idea of abetting felons...
Notes: Amazing. Near episodic companion of the canon series through Neal's POV. Introduces original elements but in a very believable manner and keeping to canon. Links to referenced art are at the end of each chapter.
Quote: The problem with Neal was really that if you gave him a rule he obeyed it, but you had to give him the right rules. Otherwise you'd come downstairs one morning and find him sitting with your wife on your couch petting your dog and wearing a turtleneck. Nobody was supposed to look that good in a goddamn turtleneck.

Presque Vu by [personal profile] rageprufrock
Synopsis: Epic, Arthur POV. (Arthur/Eames) Or, "on the tip of the tongue." Arthur meets Mal first. He inherits Dom, after. Everything else is on him.
Notes: Another ones of those pre-rec-listing fics. I seriously love everything written by [personal profile] rageprufrock and this one binds my soul. This is the fic that got me more interested in Inception fic. The beauty in this writing... I'm shit at words. The balance of wit, tragedy, friendship and love... I wish I had her talent.
Quote: "The part where he probably smells like tragedy and failure, or the part where I am embarrassed to be friends with someone who could be attracted to him?"

Breathe Into It by [personal profile] rageprufrock
Synopsis: Modern AU, Epic, Eames POV. (Arthur/Eames) When Mal leans into his office and asks Eames what he did to his back, he can't exactly say, "the new graphics intern," so he says, "Oh, just stress, love."
Notes: Another lovely fic by [personal profile] rageprufrock. This one is absolutely delicious and Eames voice is hilarious. Arthur as a yoga instructor might sound a bit odd but she makes it work. Man, does she make it work.
bikitchi: in danger unicorn (pic#709485)
Lately I've been trying to foray into Star Trek fandom sans recs or recs of the unverified source (ie: community vs. individual trusted source), hoping to find some hidden gem.

I've found a few that I'm drafting together but for the most part... most of what I've been reading has been bad. Like, wibbly Kirk who's constantly blushing (hello transgendered Mary Sue) or unsubtle possessive snarly Spock, and not the hot kind either (hello Mary Sue's Fabio), bad.

Some aren't badly written so I end up finishing the fic because apparently I need my fix like the K/S junkie I am and I end up feeling like I've just eaten an entire tray of burnt brownies, because they weren't that delicious but I kept on keeping on and immediately regretted it afterwards.

Maybe that's just how they see the characters and it's not like I'm blind to the fact that I idealize my fanon!Kirk and have a marked preference to certain characterization... Look, I'm trying to be open-minded here (but really I'm just a judgey bitch).
bikitchi: (sleepy hatter)
Your First Time Should Be Special by [personal profile] helenish
Synopsis: Starfleet era, First-time. The thing about being a captain of a starship is that you forget how to break up with people; the starship is a gigantic, unmistakable clue that you're probably not sticking around.
Notes: Kirk POV. I'm not sure if this is also considered fluff but it definitely has a sweet (albeit confused) tone. Love the voice.

Twice is Coincidence by Jack Hawksmoor WiP
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Angst. Can Kirk and Spock save the Vulcan colony in time? Pre-slash, so far..
Notes: Looks to be Epic. I really love the characterization and how nu!Kirk and nu!Spock have been irrevocably changed by the differences. It's strange because I both lovelovelove rereading this but at the same time find certain transitions off-putting or stylization a bit off. It's my nit-pickiness... like, capitalizing or tweaking some spacing here and there.

Refractions by bigmamag
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Nero AU, Angst, First-time & Established. Two separate parallel universes merge with their own as the Enterprise is sent to an unknown planet where a dangerous phenomenon is destroying ships and expanding outward.
Notes: This is another one I'd seen around but hadn't gotten to reading it for some reason or another... There are 3 "tracks" (or universes) the story flips through: one we're familiar with and two others drastically different. It's interesting to feel that a core personality shines through each of them even though other things might be irrevocably changed by their respective timelines.

Like a Riot (Don't Need Order) Riotverse Series by Jane Potter WiP
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Federation AU, Dark, Angst. In a universe where first contact with Earth in the throes of World War III repulsed Vulcan too much for them to consider an alliance, the Terran-Orion Union is the terror of the black, their Starfleet branch maintaining relations with a facade of neutrality while Syndicate ships raid and kidnap slaves. Smaller worlds hide in the so-called Free Space behind Vulcan's blockade, but 250 years isolated from any kind of emotional influence has left Vulcan law stagnant and cold to the plight of other peoples. Doing what's right is neither legal or logical.
Notes: This is dark and twisty and (nearly) everyone is sharp with broken edges but this world is so fleshed out and alien culture has never seemed so real. Although it's still in progress, much of the world is fleshed out as we're several parts in (each with multiple chapters for the most part).

Only Good for Legends by [personal profile] leupagus
Synopsis: Starfleet era, Detective AU, Epic, First-time. Detective Spock, born on Vulcan and resident of San Francisco, is assigned to the Midwest police bureau. I think everyone can guess what happens next.
Notes: Spock POV with interludes of others. This is something I read awhile back but hadn't decided to create a rec-list. THIS IS A MUST READ. The characterization is spot-on and the slow-budding relationships between all the characters feel real and tangible. I could not recommend this enough.
bikitchi: (Default)
So I was browsing new icons being productive when it hit me... and this could very well exist but holy shit I want to see some sort of Star Trek/James Cameron's Avatar crossover.

Maybe the Enterprise goes through some sort of black hole singularity Floo network Sci-fi event where they land in this parallel universe and the ship needs to be fixed and oh look, they're right by some convenient big blue planet and restock on supplies... maybe need some unobtainium.

They go down and oh snap! the natives are hostile but Jake realizes that they don't quite fit with normal Earth peeps and WTF with the elf dude that's a bit green. There's drama! Battles (but no one dies! mebbe)! Uhura meets Neytiri.

The Enterprise will boldly go where no (ST) man has gone before.

I dunno. OMG. I want this so bad.
bikitchi: (bored alice)
I'll be trying out different ways to format the recs til I find one that appeases my strange sense of aestheticism and organization.

The Edge by Little Muse
Synopsis: He knew the calm before a storm when he saw it. And one had been brewing for weeks now. Another pon farr fic
Thoughts: Pon farr, Starfleet era, angst. This fic takes a twist on pon farr and the angst is heart-wrenching. As of right now, it's still a WiP but looks to be nearly done (the author mentioned roughly two more chapters left).

West of the Moon by Angel Baby
Synopsis: There's family and then there's Family. 'Pretty Jim' Scaretta knows this better than most. A mafia AU.
Thoughts: Mafia AU, Starfleet era, angst. I've already rec'd an earlier series of hers, Atlas (♥♥♥!!). I'm a sucker for awesome!Jim and this Jim is panning out to be awesome. The pacing is a bit quick in terms of the Enterprise crew bonding but it's easy for me to forgive as I'm also a sucker for epicbonds!EnterpriseCrew. The storyline is looking to be griping and the author has already mentioned that West of the Moon will be in parts. As of now, we are only at the first part, four glorious chapters in. :D

Knives in the Water by green postit
with gorgeous art by steam-pilot
Synopsis: (I couldn't find one so I just snagged a quotation) "I'm not on your payroll, Kirk. I'm not going to risk my goddamn medical license like some back alley doctor just because you expect me to roll over at your fucking command."
Thoughts: I don't really ship Kirk/McCoy but I remember reading a rec about this fic... and it totally slipped my mind until I stumbled across the art for it, which is stunning and I had to know the story behind it.

Gritty, dark and jesus-fuck wrong, hot, dirty wave. Warnings for torture and abuse.

Hounds of Morrigan by vaingirlfic
SYNOPSIS: An alternate world without a federation. Nyota Uhura is a scary BAMF with an even more terrifying matched set of hunting hounds on her leash.
Warnings: Slavery, non-con, d/s without the safeguards. Fucked up, dirty bad wrong shit.
THOUGHTS: It's dark and dark and dark and so fucking lovely and broken and beautiful.

On a totally unrelated note. I took a bite out of bad brie. :
bikitchi: (singing frogs)
♥♥♥ Atlas by Angel Baby1 (

Synopsis: Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractured patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning.

This.... holy bejeebus. EPIC. EPIC EPIC EPICEPICEPIC. It's a sprawling 5 parts, 35 chapters total. I love my over 50k fics. I haven't pieced together a rough word count but suffice to say, you could read your day away.

Mostly Spock POV with bits of others occasionally. The crew camaderie is tight-knit and flawless. Everyone is just... ah, it's how I see the Enterprise crew. I feel like I'm floating high on endorphins (that's how well it hit all my spots).

It's the kind of slow-building, epic friendship to bromance to romance that I lovelovelove. The first part deals mainly with the fallout of Starfleet Acadmey after Nero, which I haven't seen too much of (but I'm also relatively new to the fandom). God, SO GOOD.

It's got plot, sub-plots, likeable and hateable OCs, BAMFs and so much more.

Cut for squee but also for diet spoilers. Basically, characterization fangasm )

bikitchi: (Default)
I have been consuming Star Trek (2009) fanfiction. It's been a while since I've delved so hard into a fandom. Luckily I'm a little late to the game so there's plenty of the epic sprawling fic that I lovelovelove.

I'll definitely make a master post for recs sometime.

Also. I might have to write something. Drabbles at first. It's been a while.
